Color blocking for the World Cup? How to support your country – Outfit wise

Nu när VM i Brasilien närmar sig börjar även modevärlden svepas in i den här fotbollsyran. Som om det inte var nog att Y-kromosomerna i vår omgivning totalt verkar tappa det, ju närmare mästerskapen vi kommer? Inget fel i det, jag gillar VM, True story. För det första, fotbollsspelare, Ja tack. Men det är även gulligt att se hur människor kan bli exalterade över annat än vårkollektionerna och designer reor. Det är skönt att få en påminnelse om att världen och människor faktiskt klarar att känna lycka över andra saker.
En sak som dock är oroväckande och jag har ifrågasatt det länge, är att nu börjar vi plötsligt mixa mode och dessa sportturneringar. Vi har integrerat sneakers, kepsen, ja sportplagg helt enkelt, i modevärlden och numera även i våra garderober. Ett ämne och en mix som vi redan diskuterat några gånger här (vi får fortfarande inte nog av Phoebe Philo i Adidas sneakers).

Det som verkar hända nu, som alltid när dessa sportmästerskap drar igång, är att modevärlden börjar experimentera med sport, på ett dåligt sätt. Här menar jag att man börjar klä sig i länders och flaggors färger och samtidigt försöker göra det trendigt. Matcha fotbollsspelarna på något sätt. Detta har aldrig funkat, i alla fall inte för mig. Blå-gult är inte en färgkombination som funkar, klädvägen. Ja, jag har provat.
Modemagasin plåtar seriösa modejobb med dessa ”flagg”teman, jag syftar här på Elle International plåtning med Gisele Bundchen iklädd grönt och gult (Brasilien) på olika sätt. Inte ens med den bästa modellen och det bästa teamet av stylist och fotografer funkar detta.

Vad man istället kan göra för att stötta sitt land/sina land. Ja man kan heja på mer än ett land, jag brukar ha Sverige (uppenbarligen) och Polen då jag är född där. Sen har jag några extra ifall att någon av dem två åker ut, vilket alltid händer ganska snabbt. Då tar jag också Danmark (Skandi-power), England och Frankrike för mode och Spanien, Argentina och Brasilien för fantastiska semestrar. Det är min idé av att vara patriotisk.
Anywho så stöttar jag Sverige (tills de åker ut) genom att bära svenska designer extra mycket under den tiden. Sen går jag vidare till polska designer (jag gör egentligen inte det, men jag kanske borde). När Polen sedan åker ut hoppar jag vidare till nästa land.

Men det här med att ”color-blocka” med sitt lands färger. Jag tror inte det.

Elle International´s shoot with the World Cup theme, starring Gisele Bundchen

With the World cup coming up in Brazil, in a month the whole fashion world seems to be swept away into this soccer madness as well. As if it wasn´t enough that the Y-chromosomes around us are totally hyping this upcoming event, more and more as closer we get to the kick-off. And nothing wrong with that, I like the World cup, True story. First of all soccer players, Yes please. And also, it´s so cute and cosy to see people getting enthusiastic over something else than the spring collections or designer sale, I keep forgetting that people actually can get excited over other things. It´s refreshing for me to get reminded every now and then.
But one thing that bothers me, and I have questioned it for such a long time, is when you start mixing fashion with these kinds of tournaments. I mean yes we pulled off the whole sport-sneakers and sports-cap, yes basically sports wear and integrated it into both high fashion and now into our every day wardrobes. Which we BTW already been through and discussed several times (we still can´t get enough of Phoebe Philo wearing Adidas sneakers).

What seems to be happening now, as always. Every time there´s a big tournament (sports) going on fashion is starting to experimenting with the sports theme in a bad way. This meaning we start to dress up, trying to be trendy, in countries colors, like match the players and the outfit they´re wearing. This has never ever worked, at least not for me since Sweden´s flag is blue and yellow, therefor the players are dressed in those colors. Blue and yellow does not work, outfit.-wise. Yes, I´ve tried.
Magazines are starting to shoot serious editorials in this theme, I am especially referring to the Elle International shoot with Gisele Bundchen dressed in green and yellow (Brazil). I mean even with the best model and the best team of stylists and photographers, this just isn´t right.

What I on the other think you should do is to support your country or countries. Yes you can root for more than one country, I usually have Sweden (obviously) and Poland, since I was born there. Then I have some extra in case any of the two mentioned looses, which always happens. So usually I take Denmark (Scandi-power), England and France for the fashion and Spain, Argentina and Brazil just cause they make fantastic vacations. That´s my idea of patriotism. Either way I support Sweden by wearing Swedish designers extra much during that time (duuuh). Or when Sweden looses, I move on to Polish designers (or I don´t actually do that, but I think I should start). And then when Poland looses I hop to the next country.

But to do this ”color-blocking-your-country thing”. I don’t think so.
